If you marry later in life, can you still have your own baby?

What is the potential for fertility over 40? In today’s time, we are hearing more and more women marrying later in life or still waiting to start their family when already over 35. Sharing some of my personal experience

From my personal experience, I have relatives who have conceived naturally over 40. However, when going to doctors, even just for a regular check-up, they are very negative and pessimistic. The 9 gynaecologists as well as many family doctors all insisted that conceiving a baby naturally over 35 was impossible. Some were even angry that I had married later in life. Offering information of my relatives born when their mothers were over 40, resulted in being told that was then, in this generation fertility over 40, especially for a first-time pregnancy is impossible. They do admit that a woman can have a baby until 45, but according to their statistics that can only happen via fertility treatment such as IVF and egg donation.

The importance of hope

When I worked in the hospitals, I disliked hearing doctors robbing patients and their families of hope. On the contrary, some of the greatest outcomes I have had to intervention has come from offering hope to my clients. As a result, when I began to notice, in a support group for women wanting to be mother’s over 40, quite a number of women sharing positive stories of natural conception. I decided to take action. It is so important to know that  fertility over 40 certainly is possible. It was clear to me that there would be women who are not on that group who would benefit from receiving this kind of hope and encouragement.
